Designing an Insect on a Drum Machine

A bug in my house the other day got me thinking about designing the pitter patter of an insect's limbs on a hard surface. I created a few somewhat convincing bug steps using small bits of white noise, then got into bed to revisit my work in the morning. As I was trying to sleep, I started imagining the sound of a grasshopper. I went back to my studio and sped up the steps as fast as the drum machine would go, then added a bit of variation by randomly generating changes to pitch, filter, and resonance. Slower speeds and less noise could pretty quickly morph this into a bird call. I might make a longer video detailing this process. More of these to come.
